Finished Website

Massive thankyou to Glenn, who has spent the last few weeks making the Flash program for our website to work around.
When you make a flash website, its hard to split the work due to it being a one file piece of work, so Glenn took the drive on this and went for it.
Using the images of everyone I had taken, he has made a really well laid out Flash program to put onto our website.

The two of us then went through the trouble of hosting.
Most host sites these days claim to be 'easy to use'.
Well from our experience this is definately not the case!

But we did prevail.
We got there in the end, and it is now hosted and live on the web.

The address is:

www.sdiunderground.com

sdi for Sustainable Design & Innovation and underground for the Underground theme.

Here are some screenshots of the website:

Porfolio Design

Here is my Portfolio Design.
Still tieing in with my other designs, it follows the same layout as my CV and my Business card.
As you can see, the front page is a simple page and just shows a few of my details.
Below this image is a couple of the inner page designs to show how I have laid these out.
I didn't want to crowd the page with information, so I went for light writing and bold imagery of my work.

Business Card Design

Here is my Business Card Design. It follows the same concept as my CV, only with much more minimal information. I like the way my logo can be used as one whole side to the business card and doesn't over power the whole design.

CV Design

This is the chosen design I have for my CV.
As you can see, its a long way from my old CV in terms of design.
It features the same information as my previous CV, but in a better format, an impressive layout, and contains my branding.
I think the whole page flows well and looks really professional. It's not cluttered and is easy to read and I would hope emplyers would be impressed by the design.

My CV

My Cv has always been the most boring document on the earth.
I have never really gotten around to brighteneing it up.
I know the content is exactly what I want, but the layout definately doesnt represent me as a designer.
I'm looking forward to changing this using my Personal branding.
here is my CV in its current state:

Business Card Ideas...

Here are some Business Card Ideas I have come up with based around my Logo.

Final Logo

Here is my Final Logo Design for my Personal Branding.
I combined multiple ideas I had to create this idea.
The logo contains my initials SB, which will hopefully be recognisable as my logo in time.
I went for a simple crisp approach and a font to coincide with this.
I also added a watermark over the logo that says sambrazierdesign in a repetitive manner.
I'm really happy with how my logo has turned out, I look forward to using it in more of my work.

My Logo Ideas

To get started on my Personal Branding, I first tried to come up with some logo ideas.
I started sketching to get a basic feel for how I want my logo to go.

I have had an idea for a personal logo for a few years now but have never put it into action.
I have always wanted a simple smooth logo that utilizes my initials as the main body of the logo.

Self Branding

Another part of this module is to create our own Personal Branding.
This means creating a logo to represent myself, and to make my personal items coincide with this, including my CV, a Business Card and a Portfolio.
I'm really looking forward to this part of this module, as this is more my sort of work, and I think it will be interesting to establish a design for myself.

Name Tags

As we previously planned, we wanted to create name tags in the blog style we showed.
So I got to work using the images from the studio shoot, and here they are!

Studio Work

The session we had in the studio went really well.
We had a lecturer help us setup the appropriate lighting and backdrop for our photos and then we went with it.
I used my D-SLR to take the photographs of everyone, with Jack stepping in to take my photograph.
We then had the lecturer take a group shot of us for the website also.
However, Austin had to leave early and was not present in the group photo, so using my Photoshopping skills I managed to include him in the group shot.
Can you notice?

Here are some shots from the session.
I'm going to choose the best ones for each person and then use some basic editting to bring them back to life.

Photography

For the website, we have decided to create some student logos that can be used on each indivdual page.
The 3 of us are regular visitors to an automotive blog called Canibeat.
On this blog, they use logos at the side to show the people involved in the blog.
We want to try and replicate this design for the website as it looks so clean and will flow well with the website design.
Here is the one used on the Canibeat blog:

We have hired out one of the University Studios so that we can take some professional photograph for use on the website.

Website Ideas....

For the website, we want to try and stick as close to the Underground theme as possible.
To make this happen, we are going to base our entire design around the existing London underground website.
Hopefully we can pull this off with a really professional design.

As a starter Idea, we started sketching various ideas for pages of the website.
Here is a quick sketch I created that could be used as a start page for the website.

Website Group

With everyone fighting over the graphics and exhibition side of this module, the 3 of us decided to take hold of the website.
We are to create a website that promotes the exhibition and samples what is to come in the exhibition.

Chosen Design...

After presenting our idea to the rest of the class and seeing the other designs, a final design was chosen.
Unfortunately our design wasn't chosen, and instead a design along the theme of the London Underground won.
I don't know how the Underground ties in with our course or any of the work we have done, but I'm happy to work on this theme.
It's a shame ours didn't get chosen as I was really looking forward to working on our design.

Our Layout

Ideas

The three of us are very like minded in terms of design, and this helps out a lot in a prject such as this. We seem to have very similar ideas in terms of layout, colour and shape for things such as products or graphics, so we should be able to complete a design fairly quickly.

As you can see from the images below, we want to go very crisp and minimalist in our design approach to this exhibition.
Apple products are a great example of how simple something can be but to great effect. They are known for their high end spec products, a must have item. The clean lines and solid colours give great effect and make the products look classy.

We want to bring this sort of design into our exhibition, along with interaction.

Here is a great example of a modern exhibition. Its highly neatrul colour scheme brings out the work and showcases it perfectly. This is something we want to try and do.

Museum Visits

For some inspiration, we took a trip to London to some of the Museums to see how they present work around their exhibitions.

We first took a trip to the V&A (Victoria & Albert) Museum. This museum is a more traditional museum in terms of layout and content. It's simple exhibitions let the work do the talking rather than the exhibition design itself.

Next we visited the Science Museum, which is a place I really enjoy. It's jam packed full of stuff, crazy exhibits, bright colours, unusual content. It draws you in and throws info at you in a fun way. The content is the exhibition which is something I think we want to try and replica in our exhibition. Rather than have work on a stand, make that work interactive, draw the viewer in.

Brainstorming.

Finding ideas for the Exhibition should come quite naturally. I've teamed up with my two good friends Jack Draper and Glenn Osborne again for this project, so we should come up with a good design for the Exhibition. Our idea will contest against other groups in the module for the Final Design of the Exhibition, so we have to make this one a good one!

An Exhibition

For this module, we will be creating and hosting an Exhibition within the University, displaying our work that we have done throughout our course here at Anglia Ruskin. This could be interesting, bringing up old projects and displaying them along side my newest work.
